J goes to the Dentist

Read from Su's blog that Colgate is having a roadshow in some of the shopping malls. The mall near my place is the last stop. As it is free, it is a good opportunity for J to experience what going to the dentist would be like.

I prepared him for the experience by reminding him of the story of "Topsy and Tim goes to the Dentist". I asked him if he would be afraid of going to the dentist and he say no. Thus, off to the mall we go.

In the 1st station, we were taught the proper method of brushing our teeths, then we went to a dark room to see the plague build-up on the teeth. At the 3rd station, we were reminded of the 3 steps to having strong, healthy teeth - brush and floss twice daily, use the right product (Colgate of course!) and visit the dentis twice a year.

With that reminder firmly in our heads, we head off towards the last station which is the dental checkup.

When J sat on the dentist chair, he opened his mouth for the checkup without being asked to do so as he has seen the pictures of "Topsy and Tim" doing that in the book. The dentist counted that he has 20 teeth.

Ater we left the roadshow, I asked J how he feels and he said "J not scared lah, Mummy."

hey mum_yam,

It is only in the last few months that J no longer cry when he goes for the haircut. I think there are 2 factors" (1)we constantly go to the same hairdresser, thus J has become familiar with her. (2) he gets a reward with a candy from the hairdresser aft the haircut. before he goes, we give him a candy too and tell him if he doesn't cry, he can eat it aft the hair cut. And that works like magic! When he cut his hair, we hold the sweet in front of him, at times, he would want to cry but when he see the candy, he will hold back his tears.

After a few times, he doesn't cry anymore!
