Parent Volunteer

Singapore's school system sucks! But yet, we allow ourselves to get sucked into it. Or is there a choice?

Every Singaporean child should be allowed the chance of getting enrolled to a school within 1km radius from their home. No balloting required. No clan or religion affliation required. Every child should start on the same level playing field. And if the Education Minister is reading this post, you sucks too!

Ok, ok. The intention of this post is not meant to bitch abt the system because at the the end of the day, it will take another GE to wake up the Government's slumbering minds.

This post is meant to recognize the effort my Ah Lau has put in to get the boys into the primary school nearest to our home.

So far, we were informed that we have clocked 10.5 hours out of the 40 hours as Parents Volunteer (PV).

K is the one who has clocked these hours. Whenever, we receive a request from the school to volunteer our time, he would sms me to ensure that we book the slot and reply to the co-ordinator.

He is the one who has spent his paid leaves to guard the staircase during the school exam period and invigilating.

If any of his friends or relatives know that he is doing this, they will roll on the floor laughing. Never in their dreams would they imagine him doing such tasks.

I guess what I want to say is I am touched by his dedication.

Thank you, K.

Labour of love

This is the 1st DIY project that K and I did for our home.

As we've been living with K's parents before we moved out, all home improvement task was carried out by K's dad. My FIL is very good at keeping the house in tip top condition. In the bathroom where my MIL does the laundry, there is even a ventilation fan that was installed by my FIL!

Now that K and I have our own home, we need to take on the responsibility of maintaining our home. After moving in for 7 months, we finally put up the racking in the storage cupboard. I had wanted to get a customised shelf but it would have cost $700. It only cost us $100+ to put up these simple DIY shelves.

We didn't have any distraction as the kids are with my ILs so it made it much easier for K and I to work together. While he does all the hard work of drilling, I was his Vanna White; handing him the tools he need to complete the task. Though it was hard work but I was happy to have this chance of doing something together with my husband.

Happy Birthday to the most hardworking man in the family

Happy Birthday, K!

Having kids make birthday celebrations seems more festive. Seeing their anticipation and fasination written all over their faces is pure joy. No wonder K is smiling from ear to ear too.

Unbearable

Being away from K has reach the stage of unbearable.

I've not seen him for nearly 58 days. Need to bear another 10 wks. I do feel like taking the next flight out but I can't due to work and family committments. I know there are couples out there who are away from each other for even longer period of times. Kudos to them. Guess I am not one of those who handle it well.

K, come back soon.

Day 33 without K

Wow, a month has passed since K left for US. With modern technology, the boys and I still see and talk to him everyday. From time to time, J will ask "When is Daddy coming back? It has been such a long time." while M will ask "Where is Daddy?". He has learnt that he can see and talk to Daddy through the computer and would drag me to the computer to do so.

He might not know it but you can instantaneously see K's face light up when he see his boys over the webcam.

I am looking forward to seeing him next week when he is back for CNY.

Day 1 without K

Missed K by a mere 1 hour +. I landed at 7am while K's flight took off at 5.50am.

The longest we were apart was 3 months when I was working in HK. This time round, it will be 6 months. Whenever he is not around, I would mop around even though there are many activities to be done. For some reason, something felt missing - but of course; he is missing.
